“We are pleased to have been chosen by
the Department of Transportation to
support their agency-wide accessibility
efforts,” said
Robert B.
Yonaitis, CEO and President of
HiSoftware. “Organizations need an
easy-to-use yet complete accessibility
testing solution that is up to date with
all standards and that can work on web
documents wherever they are found!
HiSoftware’s accessibility solutions
provide Webmasters with flexible, ad-hoc
reporting and querying tools that will
allow them to understand and solve the
roadblocks to accessible content.”
Under the terms of the agreement,
HiSoftware Company will provide its
AccMonitor Server software to the DOT
for use by its webmasters, application
developers, and Section 508 compliance
experts. Running as a Windows® service,
AccMonitor is an automated accessibility
testing solution for Web sites or for
use in conjunction with intranet Servers
or file servers. Using a crawler,
AccMonitor tests sites for compliance
with Section 508 and W3C accessibility
standards. AccMonitor spiders, or crawls
over, entire Web sites and reports on
their accessibility status. AccMonitor
particularly benefits organizations that
need to monitor multiple servers that
host information via the World Wide Web.
AccMonitor is a server solution that is
designed to run with no user interaction
once configured. AccMonitor can be
scheduled to crawl Web sites daily,
weekly, or monthly. It also allows users
to log-on for “on demand” reports on the
accessibility status of their Web pages.
Section 508, an amendment to the
Rehabilitation Act of 1973, requires
electronic and information technology
that is used, developed, and procured by
the Federal government to be accessible
to people with disabilities.
HiSoftware Company, recipient of the
2002 da Vinci Award for Electronics and
Information Technology, provides
software to assist organizations in
achieving and maintaining accessible Web
sites in compliance with Section 508
standards and W3C Priority 1-3
accessibility guidelines. These
solutions, available as desktop and
automated server-based applications,
help organizations develop long-term
strategies to achieve Web content
accessibility.
